ver 2023 running extremely slow.

I just downloaded the trial version of 2023 and it running snail slow and is causing the system to run extremely slow also. This only happens when I run Keyshot lately. The same thing started happening with ver 11. it does not happen when I run other programs like Adobe. I’m on a macpro desktop running 13.4.1. Has anyone experienced this?

KeyShot will use all system resources available to update the real-time viewport as fast as possible. So if you allow it to use 100% CPU everything will be really slow. That’s normal behaviour and you can’t compare it to for example Photoshop since Photoshop doesn’t need to use the CPU at 100% all the time.

But you can tune the max usage KeyShot is allowed by changing the CPU usage to a lower value (top left). I’ve it at 50% normally. That slows down the performance of the viewport but makes it way easier to also do things in other programs while using KeyShot.

Another thing you might want to activate is the maximum amount of samples KeyShot does in the viewport. You can change this with the preferences. Since the viewport is mainly to get a rough idea you can tell it to stop updating at 32 samples for example. After the 32 sample it won’t use the CPU anymore so it can be used by other programs for the full 100%.

Thanks Oscar,
I have the CPU at 75%and not running any other programs but I’ll try changing the sample rate.

I’m using a PC but I think with MacOs you can us activity monitor to see what the CPU is doing and which program uses it a lot. If you’ve KS on 75% but you don’t limit it to an x-amount of samples it will keep refining the viewport image so only 25% of your computer power will be available for other things.

The 32 was just a number, if you enable the head-up display (H) you can see the result with a certain amount of samples and I would put it as low as you find is acceptable. You can also use the pause option but personally I prefer the max samples. Also saves a bit on the electricity bill

Thanks Oscar I’ll give it a shot. I appreciate it!
